pipebytes-logo.gifNow here’s a file transfer service with a twist. On a typical file sharing service, when you share a file, you upload the file on their server and send a URL to anyone you want to share the file with and they can download at their leisure. PipeBytes brings a new approach to the file transfer task. You upload a file but the upload doesn’t start immediately. You get a unique URL which you have to send to the intended recipient of the file while keeping the browser window open. When the recipient visits the given URL and starts downloading the file, the file is uploaded form your computer and almost immediately downloaded on to recipient’s computer. It works like how you transfer a file using Yahoo messenger or MSN messenger, only this time the interface is web based.

Downside of this approach is that if you want to share the file with multiple people, you will have to upload the file multiple times. Once for each person. And in case the connectivity breaks at either end during a transfer, you will have to start all over again.

What to watch?
This could be useful in case you want to transfer a large file only once and don;t want the file to remain on someone else’s servers after it has been transferred.
